For the past years I've been attending Papakura High School, I had been involved in all AUT My Future programmes and they have been giving me the help I needed to understand my subjects better and what options I will need to take to reach my future goals.
A few weeks ago, our year twelve students were given the opportunity to attend a programme, "AUT Live" held in the city. I had decided to also take part in this programme knowing that with the help of students recently studying/attending University, they could give me a few advices on how I could reach my goal. Saturday 25th August was the day the year 12 students and I had attended this programme. This day was very productive not only for myself but for the other students as well. AUT Live was about creating our paths in life, setting our goals and also having the confidence to socialize with other students and making new friends. For a shy/antisocial student like myself, I wasn't as excited as others to meet new people but I was able to change that and had forced myself out of my comfort zone to speak to other students, other than my friends from school and it turned out a lot better than I had expected. I had formed new friendships that day. Myself and other students were also given the opportunity to visit The University Of Auckland and explore what it was like there. Both Universities had helped me a lot in making my decision on what I wanted to become in the future and where I want to study.
This day helped a lot especially knowing that we are getting a lot of support from people we didn't know and wanted to see us succeed in life. I am thankful for all the staff there who had helped me that day and gave me ideas on my goals on succeeding and I am looking forward to other programmes coming up.
Its good that you forced yourself out of your comfort zone. I'm very glad this day was productive and that you have had the chance to clarify your goals for the future . There is a lot of support available - sometimes you have to put yourself in the right place to be able to access this - clearly you are doing this!
